A Delicious Longevity Secret - Sourdough Bread

Last year I ran into a Netflix series called "Live to be 100, Secrets of the Blue Zones. "Blue Zones are areas of the world where people live the longest lives, consistently reaching age 100. In contrast, the average life expectancy in the U.S. is currently 77 years. I was intrigued so I watched it.

According to the 100+ year old women on the show, sourdough bread is excellent for your health because of way it is fermented while preparing. Sourdough bread acts as a prebiotic, which means that the fiber in the bread helps feed the “good” bacteria in your intestines. These bacteria are important for maintaining a stable, healthy digestive system. I tend to believe people talking to me about health if they are a hundred years old and in great condition.

Aside from being absolutely DELICIOUS, Sourdough bread has many health benefits, including: Improved digestion: Sourdough bread can be easier to digest than white bread, and it acts as a prebiotic to feed the good bacteria in your intestines. Lower blood sugar levels: Sourdough bread has a lower glycemic index, which means it has a slower effect on blood sugar levels than other breads. This can be especially helpful for people with diabetes or those who want to regulate their blood sugar. Increased nutrient bioavailability: The fermentation process in sourdough bread helps break down complex carbohydrates and release more nutrients that are easier for the body to absorb. Higher levels of folate and antioxidants: Sourdough bread contains higher levels of folate and antioxidants than other breads. Improved gut health: Sourdough bread's fermentation process reduces gluten and releases more fiber, which can help add helpful bacteria to your microbiome. Reduced risk of chronic disease: Sourdough bread may help lower the risk of chronic disease. Promotes healthy aging: Sourdough bread may promote healthy aging.

You can make sourdough bread in your bread machine. I recently learned how to make sourdough starter and I have been making all sorts of sourdough breads. My favorite is the focaccia. SUPER YUMMY!!!

FOOD IS FUEL BUT CAN ALSO BE FUN!
