I see a lot of women talking about weight and using weight as a measurement of how they perceive themselves to be healthy. I'll be honest years ago I used to do that too. I'd step on my scales several times throughout the day. It was an up and down mental roller coaster because when I would lose a little bit I'd be happy and when I gain a little bit I would be sad and disappointed in myself. That is so heavy and negative for me to put on myself!
Your weight is going to fluctuate depending upon what you're doing. As I've talked about before muscle weighs a lot more than fat. So if you're doing some weights you may put on a few pounds. If you're using scales to measure your progress, you will think you have gone backwards when in fact you have gone way forward. After turning 60, there are times when I bloat for no apparent reason. Upon tracking when this happens it's usually when I am not feeding myself enough. It is so important to eat good foods, paired with daily exercise. Starving is a very unhealthy way to lose unwanted fat. And if you have added weights to your workout you will need to eat more.
Ladies, throw out those scales! Chart how you LOOK and FEEL. Do you have more energy? Do you feel a little more joyful? Are you more motivated to do more activities?
How your clothes fit- Is your clothing more comfortable? When you look in the mirror do you look better in it? Has the waist loosened up on your pants and you just feel better in them? Are you able to get into clothes that you weren't able to a few weeks or months ago? Are you thinking about putting on a tank top for the first time in quite a while?
How you look without any clothes in your full length mirror- Have you noticed getting some muscle tone in your legs and arms? Do you see some tiny little ab muscles forming in your core? Is the fat on your back disappearing? Is it easier to move things around and lift? Can you SEE progress?
In my experience, measuring progress by stepping on a scale is extremely mentally negative and a poor way to track health. I like to do everything I can possibly do to make exercise and eating good food as fun as possible, while still getting amazing results. Food is fuel but it can also be fun!
Remember if you stop moving you will stop moving, Let's feel better!
